Your standard-battery Mini 3 Pro is under 249 g, but its camera means the operator still needs registration. Local flight zones and protected-area rules can stop a flight even when the general drone rules allow it.

If you live in an EASA country, use your home authority; one registration is valid across EASA states. Visitors from outside Europe can register in Iceland at Flydrone.is. The Iceland registration is valid for five years.
Mark the aircraft.
Put the full operator registration number on the drone. Add it to Remote ID if your aircraft/firmware supports it.
Take the free A1/A3 course.
For a legacy or C0 Mini 3 Pro under 250 g it is recommended rather than required. It becomes relevant if your setup exceeds 250 g—for example, DJI says the Plus battery raises takeoff weight to about 290 g.
Save proof offline.
Keep the operator certificate, training certificate, passport/ID and insurance details on your phone.
Where is the A1/A3 exam?
Flydrone’s public page only handles operator access. Complete registration, sign in, then open the study material and free A1/A3 exam from inside your account. If it does not appear, contact flydrone@samgongustofa.is. A1/A3 is fully online; only A2 uses a separately scheduled examination.
How to prepare
Read the official English handbook, then focus on air safety, airspace restrictions, aviation rules, human factors, operating procedures, general drone knowledge, privacy, insurance and security. The standard A1/A3 exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and requires 75% to pass.

The non-negotiables
Stay below 120 m
Height is measured from the closest point of the ground, not from takeoff level.
Keep visual line of sight
Do not disappear behind cliffs, ridges, waterfalls or fog. The screen is not VLOS.
Never fly over crowds
Avoid overflight of uninvolved people even where A1 rules technically allow brief overflight.
Aircraft always win
Give way immediately to every crewed aircraft. Check airport and airspace restrictions before takeoff.
Respect wildlife
Do not disturb birds or animals. Official guidance says stay 200 m from nesting bird cliffs in nesting season.
Respect privacy
Do not film homes or people in a way that intrudes on property rights, privacy or personal data.
Most likely trip mistake
A beautiful stop is not automatically a legal launch site.
Gullfoss, Geysir, Skógafoss and Goðafoss require permission; restrictions also apply around national parks and other protected areas. July is nesting season. Check the protected-area page for the exact place every time.
